The light at the end of the gorge

Ammergau Alps - Germany

The Photo of the Month - November 2021

Gorges are true wonders of nature. For thousand of years, water has continuously cut deep gorges into the rock with the help of bolders, rocks and sand. The result is often spectacular deep and narrow gorges through which the water rushes. Some gorges are accessible with secured walkways and paths. Many of them are attractions for hikers and tourists. Taking photos is often very difficult due to the narrow bridges. If you want to take photos here in peace, it is worth being "the first". This morning I left early to be there before the big crowd. I had the gorge to myself for almost an hour before it got too crowded.

What I particularly like about this scene is how the water is framed by the dark rock walls. The bright part of the gorge in the background gives the scene a certain depth. The "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak.

Gorges are also not entirely harmless. Sometimes there are rockslides and flash floods in heavy rain. During and after heavy rainfall, you should definitely not visit.
