With the upload of the photo of the month I am a little behind. This picture was actually taken in September. However, I have to continue in August. This month's picture was taken in the Dolomites, in Italy. For me it represents one of the most beautiful moments of our trip through the Alps.
When we arrived at the starting point of the hiking tour to the lake shown, the weather was anything but promising. It was covered quite gray and it was drizzling. We set out anyway. When we arrived at the lake, it began to rain heavily and so we looked for shelter under the first tree that came up. Before long, the rain came through the branches. In the pouring rain we looked for a larger tree that should offer us protection for a few minutes longer. At this point the doubts began. Was it the right decision to leave? Should we hold out and hope that the rain subsides? Shall we go back to the car? Just when the mood was at a low point, the sky began to break open. As if out of nowhere, the larches were suddenly bathed in a golden / yellow light. Although it was still raining heavily, I grabbed my camera from my backpack and started a sprint to the other side of the lake. It was clear to me that the light could only last for a few moments. While running, I turned up the ISO and opened the aperture. Even if I usually prefer to take photos from a tripod; there was no time for that now. When I was around the lake I noticed that a rainbow had formed. I quickly made a few handheld photos. I also made 2 panoramas, which have the further course of the rainbow in the picture. At the right end a double rainbow could even be seen briefly. The light show lasted about 15 minutes. During this time there were great lighting moods alternating in different directions. We were as happy as little children and after the first excitement was over we could enjoy the spectacle. Soon the sky closed again.
Very satisfied and with the knowledge that we had experienced a very special moment, we made our way back.
Once again it has been shown that the best lighting moods often come after heavy rain showers and that no matter how bad the weather seems, it can always get better.
